“Sama listens in class, but is prone to daydreaming.”
- a comment written in my junior school reports. The goal hidden within my paintings is to express some of those daydreaming spells. I love reading and think of painting as a visual means of telling a story. My work is an invitation to the viewer to escape the madness of everyday life even just for a moment.
Another aspect in my work is the expression of movement, alongside stillness and metamorphosis – such as a caterpillar turning into a butterfly and changes of the seasons. These ‘everyday’ aspects of life are fascinating and have lost none of their magic. What is ‘mundane’? What is ‘everyday’ and why should these things be classed as boring? Life is interesting and if you look and listen long enough even a manhole cover has a story to tell.
