2020 may be COVID but here are some new projects I´m working on

Lockdown began in March, so naturally many things were cancelled including an exhibition, which was to be held un June. I have done some work on a small book for spring 2020 about various spring traditions and rites in Europe. I also painted a few spring themed pictures and right now I´m working on drawings and paintings for a client, a children´s book and continue painting for the exhibition in Rumlange next year.

I´m interested in exploring anthropromorphism so there are a  few creepy cherub faces within the flowers. A contrast exists between straight lines and curves, modern and old, and  the  grey skyscrapers in the background are a pointer to the present and the future. The poem written on the left is by JRR Tolkein called Bilbo´s Last Song. Thought it might be interesting to make the wall feel delicate like paper and yet strong at the same time. The idea as a whole is about change and how the present and the past are closer than we like to think.

Again an old painting re-worked.

Above, Below

Worked some more on an old painting. It´s about the cycle of life.

A Cold Swim
A Cold Swim

A few years ago we visited a lovely city called Füssen in the lowers Alps. Beautiful and not as touristy as expected considering the close proximity to Schloss Neuschwanstein. I have always had images of the lakes and the cold blue river in my mind and carried away with me images of thick snow, heavily laden branches of pine, a lone whistler, expansive views and the cold quiet of a midwinter´s day.

The illegal trade in animals is terrible and many birds and animals die whilst in transit. This painting tries to show the beauty of wild birds – we can not own them – they must be free.

Eternity with birds and ants
Eternity with birds and ants

Inspired by the eternity symbol. The symbol is painted on a wall, which dissolves into sky. The ants crawl into the symbol and change into birds.
