Hide And Seek Sunset
Hide And Seek Sunset

This one was a bit fiddly and took a while to play with the colours, which seems to be an ongoing thing with this piece. Was always thinking of doing a gum tree series, as they are a prominent and frequent feature of the South African landscape.

Sun Clown
Sun Clown

A recently re-worked fasching (carneval) clown – he represents an amalgamation of pleasant memories of the parade for Rosentag (Rose day?) in Düsseldorf, but I placed him in Berlin with the Charlottenburg gate behind him.

Karoo Cube
Karoo Cube

The Karoo is a beautiful semi-arid region of South Africa. I spent many winter holidays of my childhood in the Karoo, escaping the endless rain of typical Cape winters.

Sea Building
Sea Building

This building is the Ernst Reuter Gebäude in Tiergarten, Berlin. I like the warm stone with the dark little windows and thought that it metamorphosing into water could be interesting. The seagulls and the seals are a memory of Cape Town. They swim and fly in and out of the water in the symbol of  ’everlasting’ to show the interconnectedness of different elements of nature.

Embassy Metamorphosis
Embassy Metamorphosis

Here, a cheerless embassy building metamorphosises into trees before our eyes.

Through The Window
Through The Window

Inspired in part by longing to return to Cape Town and of the dramatic death of poet, Ingrid Jonker.
