This is part of a series called The Games We Play. Figuratively, it means to deceive someone or manipulate a situation in ways, which remain hidden. I am mixing the figurative meaning with a literal meaning to create something interesting for the viewer to engage with.
The roots of the Banyan tree (wild fig tree) inspired this painting – these trees look as if they landed and plunged thick roots into the earth rather than growing out of the soil. In this painting, the banyan symbolises the tree of life and is given cathedral-like qualities. Inspired by Magritte`s painting of the floating men mixed in with my own photographs of a series I took using my own shadow and various fig trees, which grew by the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town.
This photo was taken at night. I will include a slideshow at the bottom with pictures taken at different times of the day.
