Working on a square canvas is sometimes difficult. Finally completed this one after changing the background colours many times. Later it needed something to cut across the horizontal lines, so added some birds flying out of yellow, black and white boxes.
During my childhood we lived against the mountainside at the very edge of the developments and houses, close to forests, dense bush. Quiet often, as usual in hots summers, bush fires broke out, which was a terrifying sight. I wanted to get the feeling of a dream sequence here with the ripe pears changing form into random polka dot patterns, the wind moving through the painting, the girls running away.
