This is the first drawing of a series inspired at first by the cover of the Led Zeppelin IV album and further inspired by survival tales of domestic abuse. This one is for mothers day and also for all women out there who haven´t found their way out yet.

Don’t know why people always choose to ask the question about what my influences are – a standard question, which I often choose to answer via a nice, long email. Sometimes it comes like a flash during the night, sometimes it comes from staring at things for a long time, and almost always from going out walking.
Besides the influence of an aromatic glass of red wine in winter, inspiration for this drawing/watercolour came from a fantastic artist called Sempé – the illustrator for Goscinny’s le petit Nicolas. I love the way he created soft trees, soft light over ‘hard’ ink drawings. One of his best books is called Sempé in New York. He’s my hero – I adore his work.
